Skate, Sparkle & Celebrate at UTC
This holiday season, UTC transforms into an immersive winter destination — even here in the Sunshine State. From skating outdoors under the stars to dazzling light shows, the experience brings together family fun, spectacle and seasonal magic.

Strap on the Skates — “The Rink at UTC”
From late November through early January, UTC hosts a full-sized outdoor ice rink: The Rink at UTC. Located in the West District (next to Ford’s Garage), it’s an opportunity to embrace the holiday spirit in a unique way — real ice, skate rentals included, and timed sessions to guarantee your slot.
- Weekday hours: 4 PM–10 PM; Weekend & school-holiday hours: 11 AM–10 PM.
- A lineup of theme nights and DJ-led skating parties add vibrancy and energy to the rink experience.
Reserve early, plan for a slightly cooler outdoor climate, and treat your visit as part of a full evening (skate + lights + dinner) at UTC.
Saturday Night Fireworks & Lights Show
Each Saturday evening, UTC lights up the sky. Expect a nightly fireworks display at 9 PM, set against a dazzling, choreographed holiday lights show throughout the center. This regular spectacle offers a fitting crescendo to your holiday outing — arrive early to snag a good viewing spot.
(The mall’s holiday events listing emphasizes the ‘Dazzling Nightly Light Shows’.)
Horse-Drawn Carriage Rides
For a nostalgic touch, UTC offers horse-drawn carriage rides Thursday through Sunday evenings, typically 6 PM–10 PM. Wrapped in lights and set in a festive atmosphere, the ride gives an old-world feel amid the modern shopping environs.
It’s perfect for couples, families, or anyone looking to add a “storybook” moment to their evening.
Festival of Trees + Holiday Movies Under the Stars
An entire wing of festivities centers on the whimsical and cinematic:
- Festival of Trees: Local charities bring themed, beautifully decorated trees to the West District. Visitors can stroll, admire, and vote on favorites.
- Holiday Movies Under the Stars: Outdoor movie nights (classic holiday films) provide relaxed family fun — layer up, bring a blanket, grab popcorn, and enjoy the show beneath the stars.
“Magical Holiday Spectacular” – Nik Wallenda & “Wonderland: Believe”
Bringing a show-stopping performance to UTC, the “Magical Holiday Spectacular” featuring high-wire artist Nik Wallenda and the immersive production “Wonderland: Believe” elevates the celebration. This part of the holiday calendar blends daredevil performance, theatrical design and holiday storytelling — one of the marquee events of the season.
Why You Should Go
- For families: Kids get to skate, ride, and watch movies; adults can enjoy carriage rides and festive ambiance.
- For couples: Evening lights, fireworks, skating under the stars — all wrapped in a warm-weather setting.
- For the region: Sarasota’s holiday scene gets a signature attraction that’s both locally friendly and destination-worthy.
