New YMCA Breaks Ground in Wesley Chapel, Set to Open in 2026

YMCA Breaks Ground in Wesley Chapel, Named the Mary W. Sierra Family YMCA

Transformational Wellness & Community Hub Coming to Pasco County

Construction is officially underway for Wesley Chapel’s first-ever YMCA, bringing a much-anticipated health and community center to one of Pasco County’s fastest-growing regions. The facility, which will span approximately 35,000 square feet, is expected to open in early 2026 and will serve as a multi-purpose destination for fitness, youth programs, and family-oriented services.

A Community Investment Years in the Making

The groundbreaking ceremony, held on May 28, marked a significant milestone in a vision that has been developing for over a decade. The YMCA of the Suncoast is partnering with Pasco County and local stakeholders to build the facility at the southeast corner of Boyette Road and Overpass Road, near the Watergrass community.

“This project is more than a gym—it’s a long-term investment in the people of Wesley Chapel,” said G. Scott Goyer, president and CEO of YMCA of the Suncoast. “We’re here to support families, seniors, youth, and everyone in between.”

What to Expect from the New YMCA in Wesley Chapel

The new YMCA will offer a wide range of amenities designed to promote physical health, youth development, and social connection, including:

  • A full-sized gymnasium
  • A state-of-the-art wellness center
  • Outdoor Soccer fields
  • Multipurpose rooms for community classes and events
  • An outdoor aquatic center with a lap pool and recreational features
  • Youth programs, summer camps, and teen outreach initiatives

Plans also include flexible space for group fitness, senior wellness classes, and family-oriented recreation.

Public-Private Partnership for Community Growth

The development of the Wesley Chapel YMCA is the result of a collaborative effort between Pasco County and YMCA of the Suncoast. Pasco County has allocated $15 million in funding—sourced from impact fees and community investment dollars—to support the project.

“We are proud to bring this type of project forward,” said Pasco County Commissioner Seth Weightman. “It’s a win-win for quality of life and long-term community wellness.”

A Strategic Location in Pasco County

Located minutes from major arteries like I-75 and SR 54, the new YMCA is positioned to serve not only Wesley Chapel but also surrounding communities such as Zephyrhills and San Antonio. The Overpass Road interchange project—recently completed—makes this location even more accessible for families throughout the region.

Strengthening the Fabric of Pasco County

With Pasco County’s population booming and families looking for more local wellness options, the YMCA will play a crucial role in enhancing the community’s overall health and connectivity. The Wesley Chapel branch will become the ninth YMCA operated by YMCA of the Suncoast, further expanding its mission-driven footprint across West Central Florida.

Construction is expected to last approximately 18 months, with an anticipated grand opening in early 2026.
